Old Hickory moved west
Horace Greeley gained fame for the New York Tribune with his phrase “Go west, young man. Go west.” in 1865. Andrew Jackson had done that decades earlier. Jackson’s legend is smeared because he drove Indians to the west in “The Trail of Tears.”
Andrew Jackson was the seventh President of the United States. He was born into a recently immigrated Scots-Irish farming family of relatively modest means, near the end of the colonial era.
